more comfy seat as well, spent many thousand hours in a 7600 in my youth and thought I'd gone to heaven when I was promoted to a 7710. still a crash box on it, but you could get the hang of going up through the gears fairly easily. 7710 also had the dual power pedal on the deck rather than the little lever on the side of the dash.
I still see the old 7600 I drove, it is still working, R reg from memory.
No crash box in 7710. 7700 yes

This is my 7610 series 2 c/w crash box. This was the first tractor I bought new in 1989, and the very last new tractor to be sold by Ford dealers Bushells of York before their closure. I opted for the crash box as I wasn't keen on the synchro version at the time due to often ending up with slow reverse speeds when in certain gears.

I remember one of my customers upon seeing it promptly ordering a new 6810 SQ with the same gearbox, this of course would have been a series 3 model.

Like many more of my old tractors from years gone by I still have the 7610 here now although seldom used... (I don't believe in paying into any pension funds.. I have these old tractors instead) :)...

You did the right thing by keeping the old Ford. I for sure would love to have the TW10, 6710 or 8210 sitting in the shed :)

Don't have a 8210 but I have a TW10 and a 6710 here both under 4000 hrs. Also a second 6710 although it's done quite a few more hrs. There's all manner of makes and models here, some good some poor.... Even a few DB's..... And so as not to veer too far off subject of this thread, we have a couple of 8630's unused for around ten years, c/w fully operational Funk gearboxes...:)

Were the gears at the side or on the floor?

I think they were all at the side because of the flat floor design of the SQ cab. 16/4 with dualpower They made Genration III up to the late 90 with mid floor 8/2 without dualpower either fitted with LP cabs or without cabs for export markets
