Has probably been mentioned before but how about a mog or whatever with a fifth wheel. Trailed spreader with expanding axle. Loadall and spreader on a low loader, pulled by mog, between jobs.
I know fa about lime spreaders but do they they do them with a fifth wheel? I imagine the weight distribution would be sweeter.

But you'd have to take the spreader off and put on the trailer too, to tow them all about. A trailed spreader with a payload of 10-11t is going to weigh more than 14t, so it counts as a trailer rather than a trailed appliance. You can tow 2 trailers, but only if they're both unladen.
So to be legal, you'd have to put the spreader onnthe trailer too.

Wonder if you can get one of these without the spray pack?

Yes that is why I said loadall and spreader on low loader.

You can have a 6X6 Zactros but if you want a new one you will have to have one soon as they are stopping making them for the EU because of engine admissions. Still being made for Africa etc. Had a go in one full auto Alison in it, pure animal and very comfy compared to our u500 Mog. I was told not to touch a MAN.

Pete,

We have a MAN TGA 6 wheel ruck, defo wont be having another! Engine and gearbox are ok but the electrics on it are junk! It seems to throw a different error code every week and all of them are sensor related rather than there actually being a real problem. Maybe they are better now as this is a 52 Reg but have definitely been put off.

They look like a real Cold War relic.

The kind of thing that has great big old levers poking out all over the cab.
A contractor near by had one, and the story was that it had been used to launch Soviet missiles before he imported it and made it a slurry tanker.

But you don't keep within the law though. As soon as you put the Big A on a trailer, it becomes a wide load, subject to a huge amount of regulation. For a start I wouldn't be able to drive it through any of the towns I do now. Plus, using a tractor and loader must be a big step down from a telescopic. I can't stand the bloody things.

I'm not trying to be awkward or bloody minded, it's just how it is. I appreciate all your comments, I really do, it's just there's no easy solution.

It's got to be four wheels though, no doubt. I spoke to a tyre man today who said radial technology has moved on since the says of terra tires and not to worry about 4 smaller tyres. I'm sure it has so I now I just need to decide which chassis. Not Xerion, not Multidrive or Lite Trac. It looks like a truck based machine.

MAN? Big 'Mog? Zetros? Merc truck? Looks German to me.......

Any chance you could have a self powered detachable crane with clamshell bucket that was left over your tipped lime? it could be transported on top of your spreader body therefore not towed.

The Germans hate red diesel. It is classified differently over there & reduces the second hand value of anything that turns up with it in the tank.
