I wasn't sorted in time to go for the young farmer top up, will hopefully get it next year though. It's the start up and capital grants I'm after though, will try and put them towards new buildings.
Yes I am hoping to apply. My plan is to put the start up towards buying livestock and the capital towards buildings. As I understand you can't lump then together for the same capital item, e.g a shed
Too old by 2 months, but then again it's not aimed at me. Personally I would prefer to see it targeted at those who really need it, not those whom have taken over on paper on an established farm. Then again why look a gift horse in the month. I'm not bitter. Getting young people into agriculture especially in rural Scotland is proving difficult and I wonder how this can be changed. Old boys simply wasn't to hold on forever.
However I foresee with the downturn in Ag and reduced sub especially on the stock side opportunities will arise for those brave and enterprising enough to take them up. IMO I reckon a lot of the older generation who have reaped large sub BACS will step back.
Well wed next week will either put us in a position to be able to apply or make me want to go and be a we arab in the empty quarter ! ( rub al khali ) ...
