"Yorkshire" boarding or vented sheets

Got a apex of a shed that's in a fairly inaccessible location. Half the boards have blown out in the recent gales so looking to replace. Not easy to get to so thinking maybe a better way to replace them with tin sheets so don't have to do it again. Any advice? Cattle shed so don't wanna jeopardise ventilation and cause issues.

Yorkshire boarding is generally better for ventilation but if you are relying on the gable to get the ventilation working there is possibly a bigger issue.

What type of ridge is it? what cladding is on the rest of the shed? Also what size of shed and number of stock. If you would like further advice or an idea of the other information required to make an informed decision about this see here.

Our builder recommended tin with slits. It's very good but do have 13ft above the wall. He put up shed for himself for barley bulls with slit tin and didn't have enough ventilation in the summer. Going to go back to space boarding for next shed I build as it will be used most of the year fo fat cattle.

It's open ridge with tin sheets most the way round. Was just wondering how much difference the boarding as opposed to tin sheets would make. Like I say it is just because it's not easy to get to or else I'd replace like for like.

How do you bed your sheds?
If they are in an inaccessible place and you use a bedding machine best to steer clear of the vented tin. Slots in them not long in getting choked up with bits of straw and dust.

More old age rather than bad fixing. Just wanna do it once and guessing vented sheets haven't been available that long so wondered what ppl prefer
a friend had them on cubicle shed with tank under and they soon rusted on the louvers as they leave a raw edge when made so boards would be best

I was led to believe that VentAir sheeting allowed more airflow than Yorkshire Boarding. I know it lets less rain in when it's driving horizontally, but supposed to let more air through IIRC. Is that not right?

Yorkshire boarding lets more air through quite considerably more, although some of the sheeting suppliers do state the opposite.

What would be the ideal size of thumb to use for setting the space between boards?

Depends where your building is, what it's for ect. I've done buildings with 1/2" gap, 1" gap, 1 1/2" gap and 2" gap. Tue most common is 1" thickness of a board. I'd recommend if you have a side that's sheltered, ie up against another building open your gaps up, get as much air through as you can whilst keeping rain out

£20/hr sounds reasonable, but I'm not prepared to pay postage...

Failing that - the side of a 22mm board wouldn't be far wrong then?
- building is for calves/youngstock, straw bedded, facing prevailing wind but some protection by trees.

The walls are 6'6" high and at its worst the bedding is no more than 2' high, so should be no problem with draughts. I'm more worried about driving rain causing the straw to get wet. it's a concrete floor and the bedding can be difficult to keep dry.
