Just restoring my gramp's old 1948 TEa, have the head off, having to use unleaded, thoughts re hardened valve seats??? I guess whilst its off best get it done.
Also any tricks of the trade re rust scale in the water galleries, dont wish to pop the liners (they are good) but there is a fair bit in the block and also the head, is there any substance I can tip in there to dissolve it and then clean it out???

I'm just completing my restoration of my 1949 TEa20. As far as I understand the seats are hardened and suitable for unleaded as standard. That's the info I received from both the owners club and the local machine / engineering shop.

If it has seat inserts, they should be ok. If not, then the head material wont be hard enough, but you could use an additive recommended by the Federation Of Historical Vehicle Clubs. Much cheaper than having inserts fitted.

Ok thanks, dropped it off at machinists, will be having inserts done, light skim and pressure test. May as well do it properly, won't be selling it.
