Terminate before any of them set viable seed. For grass weeds this is mid flowering!

What drill will you be using to get through that lot?

How do you rate the risk of planting wheat then getting a wet week and have crop come up before being able to get glyphosate on. I'm thinking of a half and half split to be safe.

we are well on top of our spraying, watch forecast carefully and if things look catchy then I go earlier

not been caught out yet !

it does a lot better job post drilling as shading can be dramatic in a thick cover crop

Got a fair amount of volunteer potatoes in our summer catch crop, was going to roundup the day before drilling but in view of the spuds maybe it's better to roundup today and then drill in 10 days time once the chem has got to the tubers?

There is an article in the current Farmers Weekly about volunteer spud control. It basically said keep the glyphosate rates up & in an ideal world leave the canopy to mature so it soaks up the herbicide. I'd spray it now so it has time to translocate into the tubers.

As an aside, I found that big doses of Starane knocked out ground keepers within a cereal crop. Cheaper than Shield too.
