Amatron 3/GPS

Evening all, need some advice on a Amatron 3 control box for a amazone spreader, basically it does away with with the older amatron+ and GPS switch boxes and puts it in to one. Currently we put a GPS input directly from a starfire 3000 receiver straight in to the GPS switch box witch gives us a rtk signal on the GPS switch box. The amatron + box takes a grarbox reading for forward speed straight from the tractor. Simples. What I would like to know is if we move to Amatron 3 with a newer spreader, and we connect the same rs232 plug from 3000 receivers to the amatron 3 for a GPS signal will it be able to be used as a speed source for the spreader as well as the GPS positioning for GPS switch at the same time??? Sorry for long winded post just want to be clear on what it we maybe trying to achieve. Thank in advance.

Does your GPS Switch box do the control of on and off and keep you comfortable about it, cos if it may be for sale a "little" old man might like to aquire it.

James, I had a look at the Amatron 3 manual but I did not find any answer to your question. The manual shows a "speed signal source" selection menu but but it does not show which options can be selected (other than the currently selected wheel sensor). Hopefully Amazone specialists can help you.

Perhaps members who have experience about GPS speed signal as well as the tractor speed pulse could share their experience. Even if the GPS speed signal is pretty accurate (compared to the position accuracy of a simple EGNOS receiver), I would have expected much more accurate on switching of the sprayer from the tractor speed signal (not the wheel sensor but from the speed signal plug) compared to GPS. Like if you have to stop on an obstacle, drive around it, reverse back on the line and start spraying immediately when the tractor starts to move (forward). I thought the GPS speed signal would need some hysteresis and would switch the sprayer on a bit later, leaving a gap just after the obstacle.

Chickcatcher, if your sprayer is section control capable, I would say investing on the GPS Switch is one of the best precision ag investments unless all of your fields are rectangular and field width a multiple of the sprayer width.

If you are running a 2630 JD screen with the 3000 receiver and have an Isobus connection you should be able to run it through that and do away with the Amatron

The machine in question is a profis hydro ultra (2015 model) and I have a feeling it's not isobus, it has amatron 3 screen but no main isobus plug to connect straight into the rear of the tractors isobus connector.

We have a slightly older machine but it is running the Amatron 3 screen. Instead of 2 boxes there is only 1 which you toggle between. It works well when you get used to it, but you still need a speed signal from the tractor. As far as I'm aware the GPS sinal(we're running RTK) can't be used! RIDICULUOS!!
