Over the last few years have bought a fair selection of the cheaper cordless drills through Screwfix and returned most of them under warranty - Ferm, Erbauer, Bosch, Makita, each time trading up for a more expensive and hopefully more reliable drill. Screwfix used to send out the new drill before a courier collected the old one which was really useful but now the knackered drill is sent to the manufacturer for inspection. Gearboxes seem to be the weak point with me and the chuck on the Makita, though it is 5 years old.

I'm having a Milwaukee M18FPD-502X for Christmas, I've been to Protrade in Derby to have a feel of one so my son knows what to get. They are on offer for £249 inc 2 x 5ah batteries, charger and case.

Milwaukee seem to have got their marketing dead right as they are very popular and give the impression that they are as American as a cowboy.

Pity they are "Made in PRC"
