Barley row widths

We are on 10" here for Spring barley. Last year we did 8.5t/ha and the year before 9.1t/ha. The only issue I have found is it takes a couple of weeks longer to compete with blackgrass while the row fills in and there is possibly more brackling, although we had none last year. My fields generally run east-west and I feel with the wider spacing that they keeper cleaner from disease

Claydon drilled a field last year that yielded the same as the usual system. Changed my mindset though, think narrow rows and as much ground cover is the safer option. Field of wheat that went in after tatties in October drilled at 230kg/ha. Such a thick cover, just something re-assuring about it. Like to think so much competition that no room for weeds to come through. Could be wrong...find out next August.

Did I see a new seed boot that Claydon now do that sprays the seed bit wider rather than puttin it through the two holes on normal seed boot??

Twin tine setup maybe? Fine up to 8" with growth reg here, had trouble with brackling between the rows when we went wider

Yes I feel on our stoney ground moisture is limiting factor in the spring and summer growing season so wider spaced seems better access to the water. The wet clay is also more fertile and not limited so closer spaced. Usually clay also more plants per square metre.
