Once you get past the idea of keeping it original it soon becomes cost effective to have an extra tractor sat on the log splitter or post knocker etc.
Exactly although just looking at a restored 7000 on another thread I'd love to do that to out 5000 but think I'd be pushing my luck there

Have a look around here: http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/ There is absolutely tons of info on restorations, common problems etc etc. I restored a Super Major about 4 years back now (since sold on) and thoroughly enjoyed the work and challenge. Be warned though if you like making a good job of things and are anything remotely like a perfectionist you'll never be truly happy with it no matter how much you do to it!

As far as budgets go, you will triple or more whatever you think it will cost you and the same goes for the time you spend on it.

As far as shotblasting it goes, I stripped mine right down to a bare skid unit, and shotblasted everything including the skid. It's fine but just be careful about covering anything well that you don't want the grit to get into

Good luck!

You're welcome, that was exactly my plan but the more I pulled stuff apart the more I ended up wanting to make it "right"

Here's a before:

And an after:

And yes I still look at these pictures and think, never got round to doing that or that bit wasn't quite right....

I'll be happy if it looks like your "before picture" when I'm done :) Looks like you did a really nice job on it though! Would you do another one ?

Thank you, the before picture is hiding quite a few nasties so don't be fooled by it!

Now there's a question... Right now the answer would be a no simply because of the day job and other livestock interests outside of this so time is always a scarce commodity and restoration is a job that you don't rush. In the future, possibly but think sights would be firmly set of a 5000 or 7000 if so....

The fordson is on the home farm so I'd need to fit it around my working for someone else depends how I get on with that the 5000 we have on the scraper will be next think I'm probably being a bit optimistic though wrong time of the year to be starting projects I think

Don't set yourself a timescale on it. Some days you'll wish you'd never even started the stupid bloody project and other days you find yourself in the workshop and way past midnight. Just do a bit as and when you are able/ want to. At the end of the day it's a project for you and not a customer so deadlines shouldn't be an issue
