New parlour

We are in the process of putting in a new parlour in an existing building 120'x48 anyone any views?
We have looked at a few and so far favour a 24 24 Pearson rapid exit parlour (12 down each side milking all 24 cows 24 units)
We have room for other options and have looked at quiet a few
Anyone out there have a Pearson parlour and if so what you think?
Cow numbers 160 high yielding cows (want speed enjoyable milking fully prep at start and teat dip at end)
All views comments and questions very welcome

Installing new plant myself ,would not consider double up plant no matter how high yields were. It is my opinion in my situation a 20 unit plant with removers is enough to keep me more than occupied ,ad on all extras u need and will be more efficient than double up any way u go, only choice after that is 2' 6" or2'2" centre , for me 2'6" ,less maintainance in long run . As for type they all look great in catalog but service should decide that ,and then running costs , their is beauty in simplicity and less headaches all u need to do is milk cows how well is important what it looks like won't impress the cows

How many people going to be in parlour ? I would go for a swingover milk meters acrs auto id feeders and a seg gate .plus vari speed vac and milk pumps.don't know much about pearsons but rapid exit can be slow to fill unless you feed in them

Think of it this way ur installing 24 units to do ur job how many will be hanging idle at one time in 20 unit u may have 5 or 6 by the time ur prep is done and rest will follow quicky and 8 rows and done.plus less spend on equipment @3000 or so per unit nice saving to do something extra for handling

I hated the thought of a swing over having only milked in a nz style basic one. Spent 2 years in a 50:50 and it was the most horrific pile of steaming turd ever. In lows I would say there were normally 35 units doing nothing and 20 in the highs.

We put in a 16:32 and i love it :D

How many cows can you put through it in an hour?

Drying off ATM so struggling to think when it last took us an hour to milk! Normally manage about 120 per hour if things go well. It's about 1000l an hour roughly including wash down time which is nearing on the same as the 50:50 on an am milking. But they have more pre and post work.

Would you be able to handle more points one person or would it just be a waste?

If I was on my own all the time I think no point. Maybe consider a 18/36 depending on how much prep work you want to do. But as a rule 1 man 16:32 1.5 men 20/40 works quite well.

Sometimes it's better to spend 10 mins more in the parlour and enjoy milking than have loads of units and be rushing
