quick fixes, bodges and creations

If you could get the ball for the strut directly on the side of the mesh gate rather than up on the bracket it'll open up a little further for you. May need a slight bit of a lift to get it to start opening but will have no problem staying open. You might get away with drilling a small hole in outside edge and a larger hole on the back edge to get in at the nut

There isn't room , it doesn't help that it's curved at the top and is flush fitting
I played around with it for about a hour thinking the best way to mount it , but this was easiest

Will probably spray it now , just need to get some etch primer and satin black

Why don't you mount it at the inside? Then the gasstrut wil be under it when you open it and therefore it will open wider.

Because of the curved top of the tailgate the strut can only be mounted in the position I've bolted it in , the angle and radius of the strut is the same weather it's on the inside or outside and as the tailgate flush mounts on the inside it won't open any more

Make a bracket that bolts on to the mesh tailgate to bring the top strut closer inline to the pivot point of the hinge and move the bottom pin of the strut up higher by the sam amount, that will allow it to open higher, I hope that makes sense, I think :scratchhead:

What happens if you turn the strut the other way up, so its at the bottom of the tailgate and top of the cover - so its nearer horizontal when open?

@itsintheblood. Here are a couple of picture of how my gas struts attach if it's any use.

I thought that I would put this in this thread since you won't all have seen it elsewhere

It is my home made vibrating beam for slab laying. It consists of one good single phase motor and anothe deceased motor with the windings pushed out and a lump of metal welded to the armature.

Place on far end of the formers, fill area with concrete, plug in, place operative at each end to steer, tow down the formers with a forklift very slowly.
