the crayons I have for ram harnesses have got hard as forgot to to put them away properly, any tips on how to soften them so i can use them again ?

Warm them slightly!! Leave in pick up on warm day! Short time in warm oven! Or some other similar method!

Don't be so tight. Buy new ones, the information you get about time of lambing is too important to risk by penny pinching.

it's not me that doesn't want to but new ones it's the boss/father, he always wants to get as much use out

On penny pinching, I melted some scraps of ram crayon down in a saucepan one year, and filled up some empty stick markers. Never where any good, always as soft as a fresh turd.

On the ram crayons, are they really that hard? Or are they just sitting in a cold, dark shed? Warmth in use will usually get them working OK. If they are really past that, 'accidentally' chuck them away and spend a quid or so a piece buying a handful more. If you leave the rams unmarked for the first cycle/period, then you can save on one set. @Global ovine is right, not worth penny pinching sometimes.

they seem pretty hard. still on harnesses from last year, there near enough new ones and full, if they aren't going to work I shall throw them in skip, by accident of course

Well the red one I had on the dashboard of the motor that was as hard as a rock and useless, suddenly became full of life as it slithered about covering all it came across in vivid crimson.

Would you not try out Raddle and oil for a year I find that it works way better and the mark lasts right up until lambing time I would reapply every 3 days on my rams

having to catch the rams so often puts me off oily raddle, have used it before when I just had one ram tho

Put them in microwave for a minute and they run out the door, been there, done that; and the dogs eating powder raddle and chip fat!

Never make it from one year to next here, dogs see to that, quite amusing finding rainbow coloured turds laid about.

Strap yourself in and make love to the missus. If you leave a skid mark, then the crayon's fine to go again.
