Avoid the 30 series ford everything is in the wrong place to be comfortable. The 5030 I drive occasionally is used for world style match ploughing and it will be sold as soon as either of the two 4600 projects in the shed are finished.

Sounds as though you have fallen into the world style trap where money talks. Vintage/classic is more affordable, costs are naturally restricted and classes more universally popular.

5030 is what Andrew Mitchell jnr uses, and was used by his father before.
That tractor has won world championships in both the reversible and conventional classes

Cheap and chearfull fwd tractors, ideal for match ploughing. Fiat , Universal and Same. The first two have Engine driven hyd pumps, so fitting extra spools is an easy task. Fwd leyland would do as well, indeed a two wheel drive Leyland will perform well, My 253 has no problems, but fitting up the spool valves is involved, but possable. There is a firm in Builth Wells area which convert dextas and mfs to FWD. Regarding fwd to pull the tractor straighter, I was under the impression that the steering wheel was fitted to controll direction! Seriously, anything will be better than the major, and I feel that a fwd tractor is a lot of weight for not very much improvememnt

Bodies are super Hydrein. To get kh to run, go and talk to Geof Fretwell, he uses them to good effect. I personaly like the kh work ( I used to have a TS86 with Fiskar bodies, untill a boulder in wales wrote it off!) but as Kv more or less bought the SOP, Kh work suddenly became unpopular, even though it made much more soil available, something the 25 board fails to do, being in some land almost furrow free. The rules do call for clearly defined furrows, but like the no handing restriction, its really a waste of paper and ink!
