Any idea when the next results update might be put up?
No doubt there is a lot of work going on to sort it all out but I'm looking forward to seeing the last 2 weeks worth of data!

For those of you who are wondering why there hasn't been an update for a while....
This is the most recent update:

http://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/tff-harvest-update-3-8.28865/

Apologies there hasn't been a more recent one. Macbook died and is away being fixed. All data is backed up in dropbox though so it's all safe, I just don't have a means of compiling it at the moment.

Once the laptop is back and harvest is over I'll start putting some more detailed results in a dedicated thread viewable by those who've submitted results.

Please keep the yield data flowing in, I've got quite a backlog now!
Looks like you will have your work cut out when you get your computer back @Daniel !

I've dragged an old windows laptop out of the loft and might be able to do something with that if the Mac repair drags on, combining, baling and livestock are taking up every moment currently though!

@admin How are things going with the wheat yields? It is getting to the point where the usefulness of the information is diminishing as variety decisions need to be made.
I would submit more data (as encouraged to by this weeks TFF email) but there seems little point if it is just adding to the backlog.

In terms of backlog, a few hours in front of the computer will clear it so there's no issue there.

Basically my home insurance took a month to decide they won't fix the laptop (repeated chasing of them). Foolishly I wrote the spreadsheet on a Mac so it meant I haven't been able to use the farm windows PCs to update it. However as of yesterday and the insurance company washing their hands of me I've bitten the bullet and ordered a new Macbook which should arrive over the weekend. By the end of next week I should have it updated and some nice graphs etc.

Going forward into next year there will need to be a lot of changes to the spreadsheet, not least it's designing in such a way that multiple users can get their heads round it and automating the data input. It's grown to be quite a size now, far in excess of what I envisaged when I hashed together a simple costings sheet to compare my own costs against!

But I feel we have at least proved the idea works this year and apologies for the sloppy execution.

I will also start using a better insurance company....

What's going on with this as it's now to late to make decisions off. The results to be any use need to be made available throughout harvest.

Do you make decisions based on one harvest's results? The weather/disease pressure/markets/new varieties will all favour different varieties next time...

The idea of the harvest results was to aid decision making so a true 'field scale' yield comparison like this one instead of the the hgca's fluffed attempts is very valuable but only if delivered on time.

Its one of those things that probably should end on the last day in august then results a couple of days later, but obviously the guys doing it are all out in the fields doing their own work so its not happened this year.

No, but I take lots of sources information into account, and it could have highlighted a variety that I have overlooked. It could also highlight robustness of yield potential if a variety has done well over a very large area in the real world, where as trials plots tend to be placed in the best part of any given field.
