Fed up to the back teeth of BT , thinking of getting satellite broadband and then using Vonage to send calls via broadband.
Can anyone think of any disadvantages or probs with this.
Do people buy the equipment or just rent/lease it as part of contract.
All thoughts and views appreciated,

thanks Gormers

Check you existing internet router and if it has a USB port it _may_ support a 3G/4G dongle (usb stick that connects to the internet) that way you can keep your existing, working, setup and with a bit of luck be faster.
NB you'll be amazed how quickly you get through your data plan thanks to all these pretty changing Ads and all that good stuff on YouTube or iPlayer

How are satellite broadband users getting on? Does the weather knock your service out? I had experience with Satellite BB in Australia and the wind knocked it out.

I have free internet through a company called Airband Uk, who provide all the schools in Shropshire with their internet, and I just happened to have a grain store they could bounce the signal off, from the next school to our village primary.
It's good and fast. I don't know if they would do it for other business's or what the cost would be.

Not had problems with weather knocking it off, disadvantage is cost I pay £39inc vat and you are unable to use a mobile phone booster, I have no phone signal either.

I have satellite broadband, Tooway through Europasat. Its better than landine broadband and I can't get mobile broadband because there's no signal at all up here. Satellite is expensive though and it's not unlimited. Plus you usually can't do any port forwarding or anything like that either which I found out recently.

We binned BT last year on our two landlines after months and months of appalling service. Spent many hours a week to bloody India getting nowhere, sometimes being cut off after an hour on the phone. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Sent an e-mail to their complaints dept eventually and was rang back within 30 mins! They were profusely apologetic but I said stuff you I've just had wireless internet installed and it's wonderful!! We got a company called Solway Communications to do it, but there are many similar companies around the country. It's better than satellite, not least because of tiny latency delays which are a big problem for satellite. Also it's uber reliable. We're on 5 mb/sec which is the slowest speed but does everything inc TV streaming. Cheaper than two non-working landlines too!
