Maybe I have imagined it,but I'm sure someone told me there is a biomass boiler on the market which normally would burn logs but could also run on pellets if required.Anyone enlighten me?

The Austrian company Lohberger do a range cooker that burns pellets and logs cooks your tea heats your central heating and hot water. Not cheap but then quality never is.

Most log or batch boilers can burn any form of wood fuel. A log boiler is normally manually fed with a large number of logs and is not as automated as a chip or pellet boiler. Typically if a boiler is capable of burning logs it can burn chip or pellet. It is also worth noting that log boilers require significantly more buffer tank capacity due to the manual nature of the boiler which can often wipe out the savings from using a log boiler.

ETA have a log boiler that also has a day feeding pellet unit attached. if the logs go out then the pellet boiler automatically kicks in and then switches back off when the logs boiler is fired. http://www.eta.co.at/259.0.html?&L=1
