Boom leveling

I have a Contour system fitted to my Chafer. It's ok but the sensitivity needs tweaking a bit to achieve the balance between the system see sawing by itself & being able to respond in time. The sensors are quite vulnerable, sticking out of the front of the boom. A mate with Normac fitted to his Bateman gives rave reviews. His does auto height too.

Are you running the standard control system or are you using a system that also does ASC such as Topcon, Trimble, Ag-leader etc as some have the ability to have it as an "add on" although some are better than others......

I believe the chafer system can be retro fitted onto other marques but I get the impression they are not overly keen to do it.
Other system are usually integrated into the control/rate governor/ASC system (topcon, trimble, ag-leader Arag etc) hence why I asked what your system was fitted with.
A system which is available as a stand alone unit and doesn't interfere with your RDS kit is available from NORAC and seems to have quite a following on here, personally I haven't fitted one but it seems to get quite a good write up. Mueller is another to look at.

Thanks for that, wondering if standalone would do or change the whole system and update the controller

Only you can answer that, firstly there is presumably nothing wrong with your RDS unit, they are good sound simple bullet proof units supported by many.
How long are you going to keep the sprayer?
Do you actually need boom levelling or do you just think you need it as it's "fashionable" the only reason I say that as there are some extremely well balanced booms on the market now that don't necessarily need boom levelling, also I don't know your terrain.
A retro fit Norac type unit depending on which model you go for will set you back circa 4-4.5k (??)
A start again system could be the same again depending the number of sections you want and if your fitted up with air/air stops.
On the plus side you then have the option of assisted steering if you want it, ASC which should cut down on the over sprayed area which should result in a saving in itself.

I'm sure other people will be along to firm up the pricing.

Just my opinion

Norac UC5 as a standalone bit of kit (3 x sensors) using the Compass display as a virtual terminal - is more like £6,800 all fitted!! (2- sensor £4,800), if you haven't got, but require guidance you can add a GPS Receiver to it, about another £900. - get your orders in quick as prices for Norac about to go up 3%.

Have a look at v-teknik auto boom levelling. 2 sensors and a control box for 2k. You connect it direct on the hydraulic valve. And you can still use your original control. Are sold i Sweden by agrotech.

Whats the best boom leveling kit to retro fit to a 28m AR3600? what sort of prices are they?

Yesterday Norac was working a treat on wheat after spuds so not dead level. Travelling at 8-9km/h 36m boom and it was faultless all day.

On the flip side its less than ideal at 14km/h on stubbles and requires constant fiddling.

@Robt looks good, does it work? How may sensors does it have and does it work with negative geometry?
Any idea on cost?

Like the idea of alloy booms on a sands can't think where they got that idea from...........
