I have a tec uk arc plasma 56i. Not having the best of times with it... Had it a while ago, and couldn't get it to work properly... So the chap we bought it from sent us some other bits and bobs for torch. I fitted the new pieces and it worked fine and had a bit of a play... So I left it for a week or 2 now and just gone back to it now but it's doing the same as before... Can't figure out what's going wrong etc... Anybody with some help or experience on using one to point me in right direction please... Cheers

a air line which is like a hose pipe is a no go

sounds like its something in the torch then
rusty tips?

I am finding practicing technique is the answer problem is while I am getting it wrong ie holding torch wrong angle to close too far away, not enough dry clean air, wrong amperage for thickness of metal etc it is costing a fortune in torch consumables.
Apart from that it is going well.

I got an r tech 50 amp plasma last year and i was having the same problems as you once you have clean dry air going to it and the regulator set at the right pressure on the rtech i find 55psi works best.
Min was stuttering and not working right but i figured i was using it like a mig torch holding it at an angle and to far away.
Once you hold it dead straight above what your cutting and the tip 1or2mm above the work piece it should work well.

This is what the pipe goes into. When you say a air line like hose pipe is a no go, what you suggest.?

Yea, maybe your right and hopefully figure it out. How do you get dry clean air though.?

Cheers. I'll have to have another proper play with it and see what what. Manage to find the instruction manual to see of it says anything that I'm missing. Again, how can I get dry clean air.?

Water separator like the one in the pic above usually has a filter as well. Problem is if the air contains condensation it is difficult for the separator to remove the moisture unless you can cool it first so the moisture goes through in droplet form.
I believe some screw compressors & some vane compressors have air dryers.

Ahh I don't think that's my compressor then... Just a simple draper compressor.

Does it just produce a pilot and then not arc when you want to cut? A good earth is very important. Grind it first and keep the distance between earth and cutting point down. Can even run two earth clamps. If pressure correct, air moisture can cause a lot of trouble.

Yea, you can see a very small spark there but then won't cut the metal, just blows air. I'm guessing the air isn't clean/dry. I'll hopefully have a play later on.

To short cut the learning process get torch tips that touch the work. When you look at the bit that touches the work it looks like a little castle , these are great for the heavy handed and save on consumables as the tips wear mostly at the beginning and end when the spark starts and ends as it finds various routes to earth.

Cheers, I'll have to look into what tips I have and see about trying other tips. I've only tried it on clean metal, what's the chances of it cutting rusted/painted stuff...??

make a nice earth connection lean the torch slightly towards the direction of cut. If machine has a continuous arc/pilot setting use that. tecarc have an ebay store or ring and chat for advice and purchase of consumables.
