@slim shiny . pritora energy ?? 9000 acre of maize will take a bit of getting through , have they got it all done

Nope, they still have a couple of hundred acres around Brandon creek to harvest! Guess it will be hit hard before xmas, same as last year......................................Did you all notice their new pre production JCB4220 on the self propelled Grimme;)
Its going very well apparently, so hopefully they will trade a few of those bland 6Rs in for some more groovy 4000s in 2015:whistle:

That is certainly the question which came to my mind! A massive outfit and very impressive. Do they only grow ware potatoes? I know you have to be big to survive these days but they must get a hammering. However, the industry is not likely to let them go. In ten-twenty years time only such units will be left?

In my opinion it's the smaller ones that will thrive

What makes you think that, who is going to supply the big boys like Tesco's, Asda etc? Will they start buying Dutch spuds? :)

@slim shiny Their website says they lift all their crop in six weeks time. If they do have 2500 acres (or 1.011 ha) that is 277 acres (112ha) per machine. In a six week period that is a fair load if your honest. I am always surprised just how low the capacity if a two row machine is. Especially if you have a Polish camp site on your back!! Especially if it rains in that period and they have to stop or when conditions are tough. There are a lot of Tectron four row harvesters in Holland. To make them cost effective you need at least 750/860 acres to lift per year. That means starting in July with earlies and finish in November. Then onto carrots and something else maybe. Not many farms can. Farmers see them as an insurance policy for bad seasons.

There are many growers in the fens running sp harvesters for 6-8 weeks per season, I started lifting early June and won't be done till end of jan on parsnips at the earliest, my harvester has clocked just over 1000hrs this season, I know if some the same that will only clock 250-300!
