Is a tool like the Browns log shear any good, sawbench is dangerous and prone to finding embedded metal, quite happy chainsawing rings and axeing them, but would quite like to be able to guillotine old fence posts and smaller tree branches. Do these machines work well or not?
Thanks.

Looked at one ages ago but needed to be able to go through some biggish cordon the end went for a rytec saw bench in the end, loads faster than a chain saw,

One of next things I build will be a wood chunker . Have a 7.5 tonner axle and a diesel golf engine ready ..... For all the stuff you don't want to saw...

David I have made a guillotine log splitter and was experimenting other day with fence posts and small stuff it will cut cross grain biggest we dared was 7 inch but have to pull lever with respect or boy do they fly , prototype one we bent blade in some right knotty oak but we know why had Hyd man work out what tonnage the pair of rams will push. All he said was be very carefully. Is just over 40 ton and when slicing through a 6 inch branch it's like hot knife through butter

Dad made a guillotine many many years ago. Its not been used in a long time now. It will need hydraulics to poer Iit now as dad removed them for another project. The ram is still on it though and the spare one is around too as can be run with twin rams or single.

It has a second blade 90deg to the first to split would in half at the same time.
It would be dead easy to weld a set of handler brackets to it and use handler to power it as would have good hyd flow then.
No pictures sorry but it would be going cheap.

We've made one, works well, far safer than chainsaw. We made it on a box that goes on 3 point linkage, so wood falls into box, then you can drop down the side and scoop wood out with handler bucket.
I think it's a 10inch blade, it'll shear softwood in one go, sometimes with knotty hard wood it needs a couple of goes.
