Ploughing Photo's

I don't like commenting on photo's too much as if you are not there in person you have no idea of how tough conditions were so unable to give too much of an opinion, but one comment I will make is you should try and put a little more width ( 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch) in the back furrow on the first time around the crown as in the photo the 2 middle ones and the 2 on the 2nd run around dwarf the back 2 on the 1st run, if you cannot correct it by widening the disc it is worth spacing the back leg out for that run, don't forget to put it back before the 2nd run round though :banghead: cost me a match by forgetting :scratchhead:

Thanks for that input Roy.Its a simple thing to change the disk setting, merely a handle to turn, but looking again at the photo, I think the back may be small on the sec runs as well, though it was a bit of a challange, getting any kind of low start with that depth restriction. The Skims were mowing not skimming, and at every stone, out of the ground they came, put them down any more and letter boxes to please any postman were available!

I missed that Countryfile. Have you got any photos of the girl? I ploughed in the Mendip 150th. anniversary match in 2008 at Priddy. I gave up with the stones and went down the pub for lunch. The stonewalling competition was far better suited to the conditions than was the ploughing. I have free board and lodging that way but not worth the hassle because it is plain that the locals get the best land !

Err not quite right about the land, I have pulled out of Mendip several times due to stones, or more to the point, lack of soil! Last year they excelled themselves, the best land(I have ploughed it before) was where they put the car park! Girls name is Bryony , a google sarch may turn something up

Indeed it is.Its not a common view, she is usualy hidden by the horses, or going away from you. But really , she does warrent a posting in the oooooooooh thread, much more about her than some of the "catwalk queens" pictured there.

A few photos from the "Frozen one" at Sarn! Sarnies,15 004.JPG first three, Mike Holloway, then David Chapel, finishing with my humble offering. Photos taken from the stony end, except the one of my opening, and during the rain!( thats why there are only these few. I was just too cold to do more).

Depends whose sat on the seat as to wether it's easy
easier than a stubble start. Two small chips, then two shallow furrows laid over them, using the chip marks as guides. So long as you get the width right there is no real problem.
Strangely, I can do far better grass starts than I can stubble, and thats doing a split, as I plough world style, I think is mainly down to the furrow slices staying with the plough,so allowing more precise placement.
