Aphids (myzus) in OSR

Anyone finding substantial numbers of either winged or nymph peach potato aphid (myzus persicae) in OSR? I'm still struggling to find many in my OSR.

Has anyone received recommendations from agronomists for aphid control e.g. using products like Biscaya, Plenum, Tepekki?

They are hard to find. It's a job to know what to do this season. I hate prophylactic spraying but have also sen what damage TuYV can do. With large numbers in cereals it stands to reason that there should be big numbers of Myzus about. The HGCA aphid monitoring email is useful, but only to a point.

Do you have any aphid traps in your crop? Is there an easy home made version that can be put in a field? Do they respond to pheremones like Orange Blossom Midge or moths do?

Have found enough peach potato aphids to get concerned. Difficult to assess numbers but would be worried if this mild weather continues. Can accept the initial influx might cause 10% of the plants to be infected with TUYV, but don't want the 2/3rd generations colonising further through the crop.

Can see us using an appropriate aphidcide with Phoma fungicides from next week onwards.

Non-pyrethroid, Non-carbamate.

Looks like resistance to carbamates is total in Uk populations and Super Kdr resistance is also quite high.

Leaves the expensive options listed in Woodlander post.

Wow - what a difference a few days make!! I walked the OSR thoroughly on Saturday - and was struggling to find any aphids - certainly not enough to be worried about. Walked the OSR today and in places was finding 70% + plants infested other areas 10-20% plants infested. Still very little phoma evident - just starting to find the first lessions.

I don't know of any specific aphid traps - yellow water traps may be of some use unless you would like to invest in a suction trap.

So - Biscaya on order today, I feel it is definitely worth treating given the rapid increase in numbers and the unseasonably mild temperatures we are experiencing

As Ugo79 states, because of MACE and KDR resistance we can't expect any reasonable control from carbamates or pyrethroids. So I've saved money not using a Neonic seed treatment so I'll spend some money on a Neonic foliar spray!!! Last I heard was around 25% of myzus are carrying TuYV.

Tepekki applied last night once the wind dropped a few aphids about now some cabbage saw fly on headlands so may need to go back with a pyretharoid for those plus another on wheat when we take out volunteer oats next week seem to be throwing more insecticides about this autumn than ever.
