Anyone starting to shift any straw yet? Are dairy boys feeding hay instead of straw??
Surprised how much hay we are shifting but they only want quality, no market for 2nd best, yes most going to dairy farms, main reason dairy dry stock after a grassy summer are to fat so the last thing they want at the dry stage is too quality silage, straw has picked up a little but again nothing but the best moving

The straw market has changed, due to the shortage last year some 2nd grade was I am sure slipping through but now they are very selective, don't mind paying but dully expect the quality to be right which is how it should be

Started re stacking hay into our better barns for next yr
If price doesn't get any better will keep it
Small bales still going out as they always do
Told old man big bale hay was waste time and afraid to say I was right!!
Just can't make it pay at price grass per acre round here

Straw seems unsaleable in east Anglia unless you have a contract. Struggling to make that pay also!! Defo baling less hectares this year unless it doesn't rain all spring.

Sleaford doesn't seem to be burning consistently enough, they have loads in holding sites. Eley is burning well but has lots and lots in stock, won't take 1 tonne over contract tonnage. Think snetterton may start stocking up next year though but not sure if that's a runner? Basically need a long winter to use stock this year or crap straw yields for 2015 harvest, otherwise 2190's will be cheap in farmers weekly!!

Ely will take it
U have to deal with big bale north though(northern straw)
Although he did say he was taking ours as we do some for him every yr and who nos what next yr will bring
They baled 27000 bales more than they need but he said they happy to carry them over till following year
