The varieties in the blend will be varieties that have recently come off the recommended grass & clovers list. Over the past two years hundreds of acres of this mix has been sown by forum members with no problems to my knowledge. A mix containing listed varieties will be approximately 0.40p/kg more.

I will need to enquire as to germ figures.

Hi Kevin can you send me 100kg of the westerwolds please, the haylage we made from last years has gone down a storm so need to make more this time.

Rob
I'm surprised you got it to dry enough for haylage. Any Westerwolds I've seen has such huge knuckles one it I would of thought it would take forever to dry. Am I wrong?

Interesting. Have steered away from it because of my thoughts on it maybe I have be doing it a injustice!
I had sheep on it till mid march then 75 units of N cut around 5 June, would be very different if 120 N and cut 5th May, I am surprised how well it feeds to be honest, all the yards including my own livery love it,anything having it will not touch the very best hay, I would imagine the sugar level is pretty high. I am using it instead of rape as a break crop, the downside so far is that the second cut had some viable seed which I left to germinate and this meant the wheat went in mid Oct on wet land, we had 2ins of rain within ten days of strip tilling the wheat and it is not looking that clever at the moment, next time I will leave the crop over winter and run tack sheep on it till end of Feb then drill spring Barley. Compared to rape it is a cheap crop to grow and higher income, aim is to sow in the autumn graze with sheep cut twice 1st year and get some self sown seed to get a second year out of it
