lime spreading

You only apply approximately a tenth of granular lime compared to the limestone

So the cost of granular lime is pretty much the same and you can put it on when you want and down the tramlines.

£20.50 for limestone spread sounds dear to me

We looked at what we could buy limestone for and then at what the supplied and spread cost was and the spreader guy was taking £4 ton to spread it.
We would get kicked off farms if we charged £4 per ton to spread fertiliser

Rightly or wrongly We are having ago with granular this year, we will spread via vary rate maps

If you need a good price on the Calcifert I can put you in touch with someone

Funny how the people who really slate granular lime are AG limestone suppliers

Seriously?? You don't earn £4/t to spread fert?? At a rate of , say, 2 cwt/acre that would be 10 acres per tonne and £4/t you would be earning 40p per acre.

Two things, one, if you can work for that and earn a living, then I will gladly sub all my spreading out to you and two, no wonder you think granular is a good deal if you work on those figures.

Don't mean to sound rude. I don't mince my words so if I wanted to be rude then I would. I just find this sort of thing amazing.

If you put one tenth of the amount of granular lime as ground lime on soils around here, I can almost guarantee that in three years time I would have a bonanza on my hands. A few have tried it, they have all come back except one. He has retired. I now lime his farm for someone else.

Yes, I am a lime salesman and immediately that makes me biased. I am also honest, I know this granular sales pitch inside out, and I can count.

There could be a million folks against me and I will always say this:

It WILL NOT work better because it CANNOT work better. It is EXACTLY the same stuff.

That will be wrongly then.

£20.50t D&S isn't particularly expensive, prices vary in the Uk from around £10/t - £35/t. £4/tonne for spreading fert would get you kicked off a farm? Try £20/tonne for spreading fert, not unusual around here.

As Pete says and I have and many others, the granular will be costing you dearly. If it was 10 x the concentration of bulk lime you would have a reason for using it, but tell me, how exactly is it going to work the same as bulk at the rates you will be applying. Please do tell me.

Why are ag lime people always slagging it off? Because they know the facts. I sell some granular from time to time so not completely biased.

P.S. Funny how the people manufacturing granular lime are the same people who produce bulk ag lime. Its the same stuff, just a new way to market it!! Clever eh?

So applying 200Kg/Ha of Urea, a tonne would cover 5 Ha. You say you cant get £4 to spread fert on 5 Ha!! I think you need some better customers, or a new calculator or just get a job driving tractors for someone who knows what he is doing(n)

Certainly no dummy spitting here Wally. Funny how text can be read wrongly. It's no skin off my nose what money people waste. You all have the facts, both myself and Mounty are more than willing to put the common sense point of view forward. What you decide to do with that information is up to you. I won't get stressed in the slightest.

Another suggestion..... If you can win money off your mates that easily, I would consider selling your tractor.
