Here are a couple of photo's from markets long gone from around here that I used to go to as a boy
Bath had a small market on a Wednesday every week in Walcot street that is now a hotel with multi storey car park underneath.
Chippenham was one of the biggest one day markets in its day that is now houses.
Gloucester market was also a big one, but not sure what's on the site nowView attachment 298810 View attachment 298812 View attachment 298814 View attachment 298810 View attachment 298812

I believe that the picture of Gloucester is the first market in centre of the city sorry can't give dates it's a bus station now. The newer market was st oswalds and that is a shopping centre now :( I included more pics of Gloucester both the early and later ones.

What was frightening at the time was how fast they closed some of the markets. If I can remember after all those years, I'm sure we were told that Banbury was going to be moved to the other side of the M40 but that just seemed to be rumours then all of a sudden they announced that it would shut in a fortnight! Thank God we were allready sending lambs to Midland Meat Packers at the time and would accept what we would have sent to Banbury as well.

Nearly 30yrs ago, I regularly used to go to Doncaster market on a Saturday with my uncle and cousin, and Beverley on a Wednesday in the school holidays, no pics though, sorry. Both now long gone. Malton market as it currently is wont be there much longer, though theres a new one on the way.

@Cowabunga - the entrance to the mart was to one side of where Next stands, it is now a delivery road. The main cattle ring was roughly were Cotswold is now and the top of Debenhams. Having spent most Wednesdays there selling heifers, I can quite clearly bring it all to mind. You may recognise the old pedestrian entrance, long gone now.

Just over the road was the food market.

These were taken around 1900. The clock tower is still there.

Now who can place this?

The arches in the background give it away. Christmas Fatstock Show, Market Yard, Cardigan December 1950 which is now the inner bit infront of the indoor market.
