XTI 160 MMA / STICK WELDER / INVERTER ARC WELDER

With Lift Tig Function (Single Voltage) with cary case (No Torch)

What Jonathan Say's about the Parweld XTI 160

" For those of you that have an old Oxford Stick welder in the corner of your workshop or have not used an inverter welder before then you are in for a shock. The Parweld XTI 160 stick welder at less than 5kg is completely portable and with its DC output it makes the poorest of welders feel that they can take on a gas pipeline. With this powerful little machine you will be able to weld using a 3.2mm rod all day long on a 20ft extension lead or use on a 7kva transformer or generator using 100-120 amps of this 160amp welding set. As some of you will know not all welding machines can cope with dissimilar, stainless, hard facing or low hydrogen electrodes because of their low open circuit voltage however the Parweld XTI 160 can and again it will give you a great result. I have used this machine and have seen it used on a coded welding job, I can only say that I love it, so much so that I now have one at home."

If you buy one and don't like it, send it back and Ill give you your money back !!! ........

Jonathan

The use of inverter technology allows the construction of a lightweight portable MMA Inverter machine which is ideal for maintenance applications.

DC Output
The XTI 160 has a DC output and when combined with the correct type of electrode it is suitable for welding alloy, non alloy steels, stainless steel and cast iron. Electrodes upto 3.2mm can be used with ease.

Tig Welding
By fitting the optional Tig torch and coupling to a suitable gas supply the XTI 160 can be used for Tig welding and is suitable for welding steel and stainless steel. The lift arc mode limits the arc current when the tungsten touches the work piece preventing electrode damage.

Generator Friendly
The XTI 160 is able to cope with inputs which fluctuate by +/-15% and can be used with the majority of generators. The machine is housed in a rugged steel case and is supplied complete with a storage case to hold the accessories.

Standards of Conformance
ISO/IEC60974-1
ISO/IEC60974-6
RoHs compliant

  • Lightweight 6.4kg
  • 240V Input
  • 25% Duty Cycle @ 160A

Just ordered one of these;)

Will report back to the forum if it's any good (or not:nailbiting:)

Well it arrived this afternoon.

I have to say that I am very impressed. It's ages since I last used a stick welder, but was able to do a decent weld straight out of the box. All the rods I have look to have got some damp in them (been lying around for years) so will need to get some new ones, but even so, here's the second effort

How big a job can you take on with only a 3.2mm rod Jonathan? What would a 161 model cost instead?

Anyone know how this welder would compare to a INE Skyline 1500 my boss bought that a couple years ago and currently bring that home:whistle: for odd jobs. Don't know a lot about welders, but quite competent a replicating seagull shite!!:shy::D

Don't know this particular welder but inverter stick welders are usually excellent to use and much easier to weld with than old oil cooled types. It looks ok at the money, won't be as good as some more expensive brands but for occasional use should be fine. I got a tecarc for father in law and it works fine similar type of thing.

Yeah we've a old oil one at home big and cumbersome and often trips out the leccy. This looks ideal for what I want to do.

Would this be a good welder to start off on, probably just sprayer booms (hopefully not too much) and general light duties

I started with a cheap sip stick welder when I was about 12, and this new one is an absolute joy to use compared to that.

The weld starts instantly without sticking, and it's really smooth. Had some 3.2 rods glowing red hot this morning, but then the fuse blew (only a 13 amp mind)

If you are considering getting one, go ahead, you wont regret it

What are you planning using it for most of the time

Repair work mainly, and stuff like welding gate hinges onto buildings, have a 3 phase mig for the workshop, so got this one mainly for it's portability. Having said that, I reckon it would be fine for most fabrication work, apart from the really heavy stuff

Looks like it makes a right tidy job, only ever used to mig. Had a bash with my FIL's old oxford stick earlier welding a ifor drawbar and that was an experience.

Just had a look on UPS facebook page, makes good reading, don't think i would use them if i was sending out parcels, fairplay to WSD looks like it's out of there control but think you should maybe try someone else for your shipping.

@Welding Supplies Direct , i take it this inverter welder is the biggest you would suggest for a 16amp supply? Been tempted to get an inverter for a while, mainly for fabrication (light mind!) and welding metal on the plough :(. Mainly on a ext lead, about 15ft. Currently got a 230amp old technology arc but 3.2s bit much for day long work.
TIA
