Farm walk hosted by FAI Farms to look in detail at their ongoing Adaptive Multi Paddock Grazing project.

About this event

FAI Farms, based in Wytham near Oxford, farms regeneratively along the banks of the River Thames. They are proud custodians of a wide range of habitats including ancient parkland, woodland, silvopasture and river meadows.
Silas Hedley-Lawrence and the team at FAI would like to invite fellow PFLA members to FAI Farms (Wytham, Oxford, OX2 8QJ) on Thursday 21st October 10.00am – 3pm for a farm walk & discussion followed by lunch.
FAI (Food Animal Initiative) was set up 20 years ago as a research and consultancy business with a tenancy on the Oxford University Farm in Wytham near Oxford. FAI has predominantly focused on how to make food supply chains more efficient and sustainable, in doing so working with some of the largest global food brands. Some of the more notable projects were the 5 point sheep lameness culling plan; introducing trees into free range poultry enterprises; and their current AMP grazing project. FAI has been certified organic for 20 years and made the transition to regenerative agriculture two years ago.
At FAI the regenerative system is based on enhancing fragile ecosystems, focusing on soil health, increasing plant diversity, providing habitat for wildlife and the highest welfare standards for their livestock.
Alongside Pasture for Life certification, they are certified Organic by the Soil Association and are one of nine UK farms to have the Savory “Land to Market” certification for regenerative land management.
FAI Farms are aiming to achieve wider supply chain adoption of sustainable and regenerative farming practices through collaboration and research with organisations across the global food supply chain.
Currently, the main focus on the Oxford Farm is their AMP project (Adaptive Multi-Paddock Grazing) in partnership with McDonalds UK & Ireland. In 2020, FAI transitioned the beef enterprise over to AMP grazing and over the subsequent 4 years they are collecting the detailed ethical, environmental and economic metrics to understand and document the impact of this novel grazing system. FAI and McDonald’s UK and Ireland are proud to have won Compassion in World Farming’s Sustainable Food and Farming Award for the pioneering regenerative beef project.
