A session to increase awareness of mental health in agriculture in Wales with practical tips to support someone who is struggling.

About this event

This training will be delivered in a community venue in the Neath area. It is fully funded by the Welsh Government and is for anyone who works/lives in the agricultural sector in Wales or works directly with Welsh Farmers.

A recent survey found that 88% of farmers under the age of 40 felt mental health was the biggest danger facing the industry.

Join us for Mental Health Awareness training to skill up on how you can support others in the Welsh farming community as well as yourself. This three and a half hour session will enable you to know how to spot the signs of someone with poor mental health, how to support them, how to encourage them to access support and also how to look after your own mental health. It is delivered in an engaging way with lots of opportunity for discussion and to ask questions. You will take away a pack of useful resources, including what support is available locally and nationally. It is designed to support anyone farming, their family, those living in the rural community or providing support or services to the farming community in Wales.

Previous participants have said:

"A good mornings work which has given me the skills to manage the farm staff and my farming friends in the community. And to also help me cope with the day to day life and manage my mental health and well-being."

"Excellent training. It felt like a safe non judgemental space and was interesting and informative without being very heavy going or dull. Great discussions with other candidates help to relate the training to real experiences. I definitely feel better prepared and more confident in approaching the subject of mental health both professionally and personally.

"Great to have mental health awareness training specific to the agriculture sector."
