Connecting to a water main

I don't think any water would come out of the end of 800 metres of half inch pipe.
1/2 inch connection is standard for domestic but that has nothing to do with the pipe size and you would normally use 3/4 or larger.
Suspect many farms on older connections are happily drawing water off 1/2 inch.
Flow rates are dictated by head, distance and pipe diameter, for many domestic supplies with a header tank even half inch pipe would be fine particularly if downhill from meter.

tbh, if I can get the lot done for under £5k I will probably not worry too much. Obviously, if AW are reading this then I wont pay a penny over £2k.

Finally had AW around to survey. They wont do much digging! I have to find a contractor that has the correct paperwork to dig by the road, and get them to dig and lay the pipe pretty much from the main to where I want in on my property; fit the special valves; dig the fancy little manhole and the like.

AW want £2300 + VAT to dig from their main, under the road, plug into my work; fit meter. Didnt think that was too terrible, but as they wont do the work to my actual site, and it will be nigh on impossible to get AW and my contractor doign the work at the same time, it will mean two lots of traffic lights!

But still, the question is now I am getting someone in to dig up the verges, do I take the plunge and have them dig the 500m to exactly where I want it, or dig into the nearest point to get the connection, and then me lay my own pipe across my own field in the fullness of time. We have our own digger btw.

Ide let them dig to a point where you can make your own conection ,,they made my landlord put a non return valve in 2mtr from the meter ,,you can dig your own trench for following pipe work anytime you want ,,

Balfor Beaty did all the work for AW ,,The main pipe was on the same side to the new length so they only had to dig a small hole to access it ,,they did the job in a morning

Yes, the only bit AW are saying that they will do it about a 10m stretch underground from their 3" spur to join on with the bit I have to sort myself, along with the meter. I would need a contractor who is on their list, or failing that one who is approved to work on the side of the road, which we would not be. Once to my own land I can do it myself. I am going to ask for a quote for the 60m stretch to the nearest point where it joins my land, and for a longer stretch which would be more where I actually want it. SO far it is under my budget, so hurrah!

Is it to a new conection or an excisting ,,only reason is if its a new line your water company may want the pipe steralising before use ,,anything over 100 mtr is supposed to be flushed with clorine before conecting to mains supply, allso will have to fit non return valve
