Rather then buying lime and requiring a contractor to come and spread it. why not get abit of "Calcifert" (granulated lime). You can then spread that with your fertiliser spreader.

I think you only need to put a teaspoonful on, and it does the same as 2t/ac of that horrible dusty, ground stuff. I'm sure Pete will be along soon to let us know if that's right.

Can't believe you mentioned the C word on here..it's like a witch hunt to anyone who dares to mention an alternative product to the norm..!
I would mention I put that C word stuff on some land which had a PH of 4.9 and now it's above 6 but no one would believe me and I'd have the klu klax klan of lime spreader contractors and all there worshippers after me..!
Must go now I think I hear footsteps..!!

For balance, I've just dug out some soil test results. I also used Calcifert on a 60ac block of PP last year, where had access issues for a lime spreader. In April, it varied between pH 5.4 & 5.7 I spread 4cwt/ac of Calcifert in July, and it was retested by a different company in October (when it should have had some effect, being so 'quick acting'
). In October one field had gone up to 5.8, whilst the others had all stayed about the same, or dropped (to 5.2). I haven't applied any more, but had slag based fert (Bettergrass Extra)applied in late March. Soil tests were taken a couple of days ago, so it will be interesting to see if that had more effect.Derick

Give it a year or two. It may well be cheaper in year one, but give it time.
Several of my customers have tried it. They have all come back except one. He has retired. I now lime his farm for someone else.
