As long as that.
Nick...
Well ok maybe that's a bit ambitious for them I understand the current record is 1 hour 37 minutes without a breakdown which was set by an MF38 in 1991. There was a rumour that one of there machines almost managed a complete hour without breaking in the 1st decade of the 21st century but as they only sold about 2 of them in this time period it hasn't been confirmed.

For balance. I run an mf7256 Al and its been pretty good. Bought it last season and run it over 850 acres a year. Cost so far have been running at £4 acre. And a large proportion of that is where the previous owner must have blocked it and damaged one of the walkers. They welded it back together.

It didn't last and are more expensive than I imagined when I bought the combine as I knew I would replace it at some point. Lesson learnt there.

As for back up, my dealers have been faultless so far and parts have been available. Its 10 years old so expect a few issues.

Haven't quite finished harvest yet so fingers crossed.

I can just see those Massey combine owners now reading this thread, there head in there hands!! Cussing why!! Did I buy that Mf 40 3 years ago with 1700 hours on the clock for £12000 and not consider a quality marque like a Class or New Holland and pay double the price!! With the current high earning potential of arable farming today!!? believe me I have little sympathy with these Muppets!! And I bet they have spent little to nothing once again this season on that bloody red rubbish!! And what the hell do they think they will do with the money they have saved from finance, contract rental, or contractors!!! Got no bloody time for em Me!!!!
Just can't believe there is anyone out there running this cheap rubbish!!?
Why don't they run with the pack?? Get on that drip drip treadmill and be highly respected in the green and yellow farming circles!!? Go on you know it doesn't make economic sense!!
Know where the hell did I put that tin hat??

@jakeboy , You just cant help these people...i had someone trying to tell me that i would be better off to pay someone £45 an acre to cut and cart our crop, then go work for someone else, rather than run a 38 year old combine with a total running cost of £9.50 something an acre including its driver!!!!

Its no wonder half the population of this country hasnt got a pot to p!ss in with financial advice like that being suggested!!!!

Some characters on here probably need to build a bridge and get over themselves. With regard to this argument between people who run new gear compared to older gear, there are numerous different circumstances out there that people find themselves in and no one recipe is going to be right for everyone..... I know of people that can't justify a combine but if they enjoy the art of harvesting and want to , then who gives a stuff what the pros and cons of running old gear are. Some people take a lot pride in keeping old gear tidy and reliable and can do it well.

Similarly if someone wants to spend the big money on a new combine, then what is the point in putting them 'in a box' by implying that they are just big noting show ponies. There are good reasons for buying or hiring new even if some cannot see them.

I would suggest that some of those p!ss taking individuals are just as ignorant as those that they are criticising.
