Navara EGR

My wonderful navara seems to have developed another problem, that seems to be the egr valve . What I'm looking to know is, if I block off the egr will it put on the engine management light or is my mechanic talking rubbish?

What age of navara?

I've a '57 plate with a blanked off egr that's been fine for years.

It's also been chipped, and had the exhaust dpf "enlarged" by ramming a loader tine through it.

No warning lights at all, with more responsive engine and better MPG.

What age? I have a 55 reg navara (old style) that developed a misfire, almost like a blocked fuel filter, changed the filter but no different. It turns out that the problem is caused by the 'neutral position switch' apparently this cuts the fuel on overrun.

It's an 09 model 75k on the clock

I have just fitted an exedy clutch and single mass flywheel and he complained about fitting that, his reason that nissan fit the dual mass for a reason!

Did your egr give trouble before you blanked it? Where does the dpf thing live?

Egr wasn't giving any problems, I just didn't think it was very good for an engine to be breathing it's own excrement.

Diesel particulate filter (dpf canister) lives as part of the exhaust. I think the fuel economy was improved on yours in comparison to my '57 plate, and at 95k it's obviously not giving you any bother.

Plus it sounds like you're having enough trouble with your mechanic :ROFLMAO:

I see I was trying to post a youtube video there were it sounds like the engine runs rough but I don't think it's a miss fire cause if you go for a drive it's fine

Fuel economy wise 22mpg on a good day so every little helps lol

Yes he doesn't want to to anything unless it's what comes standard I tried to tell him there's more than one way to skin a cat but it fell on deaf ears

As regards blanking off the egr is it just a matter of making up a plate and fitting it between the joints?
Or do I need to remap or whatever to tell the ecu that it's blanked off ?

I have a 2009 D40. I put a blanking plate in egr in 2011, done 100 thou since. No issues, no lights. Put old school flywheel and clutch in about 8 months ago when original let go. It was 2 days before last Christmas:mad:. Rattley old sod at idle now, but throttle response is transformed. You can actually get the bugger to shift a trailer now. Manual trans D40 has no dpf.

When you guys say 'DPF' , you are actually meaning 'oxidation catalyst' , since the former operates closed loop with several pressure & temp feedback sensors, knocking it out certainly will really upset the ECU.

How do you know it's the egr valve? Reason I ask is because if it's already forked it'll need replacing and then plating.

Mine started showing the eml which could be reset by the battery. After a few weeks car died on the road with a trailer. Would hardly start, wouldn't rev up and smelt like a sort of chemical tar factory. Turns out the flap had fallen off the egr. The valve position sensor goes home. No choice but replace. £230 if I remember right.

I had to change clutch and fly wheel last week as well, I did notice a bit more vibration but nothing I can't live with.
I think I will have to try blanking off the egr

Well we don't know for sure unfortunately, the pickup would randomly start running very rough and a lot of black smoke comes from the exhaust, some times its worse when trying to reverse with a trailer, I had a quick look at egr valves and I thought they were around the £400 mark

Try Billcar engineering http://www.billcarengineering4x4.co.uk. Plate was about four quid.

The egr is easy to take off if it's the electrically controlled one. Just a few bolts and you can clean it with some carb cleaner and check the movement of the flap. There are some coolant hoses on it so don't do it whilst it's hot like I did :bored:

Anybody remapped a Navara? I’ve got a 13 plate that’s only doing 26mpg but I hear of others getting over 30.
Any advise welcome.
