John Deere 750a Disc Wear

Our discs have just got down to 17" after only about 250ha (3m drill). At £41 per disc that's about £3 per hectare and well away from what others seemed to have achieved, we're not on the most abrasive land either. How does this compare to other people's experience please? Thanks

By the way I see Techmagri sell a suitable disc for £27 - anyone know what quality these are? Thanks

No its not necessarily that uncommon. I put it at about 50p/acre ish. They are a pita to change really but nothing that can't be done in about 5 hours about once a year.

I don't buy them from the dealer now as its too dear. We need a few more aftermarket sellers and they are the type of thing you'd be able to get for £20 a disc from Bellota in Spain.

Get a price from apm ag.

Stick them on a stock order and they are down to about £30 from your JD dealer, not worth getting a spurious one at that.
The second set of discs will last much longer.
Can do a 4m drill in 2 hrs, it's all in the technique, and practice!

Current JD set done about 2000ac now on OE discs, not much left at all but will prob get our beans done

I had a set on the old drill from APM that were £27 ea - they lasted less than the JD ones but long enough to make them cheaper per acre

last time I had a quote JD wanted £45 on a stock order (hence why I tried the APM ones) but I'm lead to believe they have come down a bit recently ?

What is the size of the discs when new my drill has now done 6500ac and are still on the original set I changed the boots at 5500 as they were about shot but the discs still look fine anD I have no problems getting them to penetrate the ground at all . I will measure them tomorrow .

When I saw Gabe Brown in North dakota his set of discs had done 25000 ac. Just shows what is possible. I went on JD online the other day and they were £33 per disc. Rang up dealer and they wanted to charge £47. Lets just say got it at the cheaper price.

some soils suit discs and some tines - tine points wear real fast here but discs seem to last

maybe this should be a consideration in the endless disc vs tine debate !!

Boots shouldn't wear before discs as they are meant to be kept just outside the ground. Boots are pricey to replace, a rule of thumb is 2-3 sets of discs for every one set of boots. But it could be worth tungsten/ hard facing them.

90 series boots are harder wearing than 60 series. As they sit further back in the shadow of the disc there is also less pressure from the soil on them.

I think its more likely down to the quality of the metal. 55 R C discs lasted at least 5 times longer than 48's here.

No matter what quality times don't last on my soils - we killed tungsten Claydon, dale and simba points in very few acres yet other get load done on them

Vaderstad discs lasted ages here many thousands of acres as do JD discs with the apm ones really not far behind at all

I think it's our stone content that damages points but doesn't seem to wear discs so badly

Re JD vs APM dics though I would buy the apm disc again assuming the price dif is the same as despite less acres they were cheaper / acre

750a running costs are so cheap however it's not really worth too much thought

Sounds like someone has some very high impact soil conditions if Tungsten points are being worn out so quickly,Tenmat Ferobide is a steel matrix tungsten which is much tougher than standard WC and can be welded to give a much higher strength joint, and can be fitted "on farm". Product is about to be launched and samples are available for test, even though we been testing for 3 years in very high wear / impact conditions. Tiles are 4-6mm thick and 15-25mm wide and 40mm long.
