Would any of you think that "IF" ,there was a way that chaff could be blown in to a trailer pulled behind the combine, (the straw being baled),that it would help to reduce blackgrass seed bank problem in the soil. I know it is a very theoretical idea, but nothing like trying to think out of the box,to premote new ideas for discussion.

Chaff cart, did three harvests on farm in western Australia, we towed chaff carts, basically 4t silage trailers with dolly on fixed drawbar, all material from sieves was blown in, straw was chopped or baled. Chaff was burnt in the winter before next crop. Reason was for resistant ryegrass.

There is also an attachment to put on the back of a combine that puts all the chaff and stuff off the sieves on top of the swath so it gets baled up . The chaff collecting carts look a good way to go get all the seeds off the field .

reading this got me thinking

why not a crimper type unit to crush seeds so they wont grow?
very fine chopper chew em up?

be alot easyer than a trailer on the arse all day and will put material back on the soil!

This does exist. Saw it on a caterpillar combine in WA. Basically crushed the seeds to stop germination.

You need a way to 'catch' the chaff from the combine and 'toss' it into a tipper/trailer. Something like Pottinger Mex 5/6 but with different head to catch chaff from combine instead of cutting stalks. Some type of hopper that receives the chaff from the combine and tosses it into a trailer/tipper.
