Best second hand tedder £1800 - £2500

what's the best tedder that fits this price range? im not totally fixed on price if its justified by the machine.

I would like a 6 rotor as the extra width is more productivity but the 6 rotors seem to have had the most grief ie frames welded up. is this due to design/strength or the nuppet on the seat?

been told to stay away from the 6 rotor krones? due to breaking up?
advice is the lely is the best, debated the lotus stabilo 600 as a compromise 6m machine but 4 rotor supposedly less grief than 6? but do these do a good job at spreading out or are they a compromise (I probably wouldn't use it to row up as not wide enough rows)

I use a Kuhn digi drive 5001 for someone which they've had from new, it has been no grief at all except 1 year it snapped a bolt which holds the guard so we unbolted them off to sort later and hmmmm it works well without them! I like these but the 6 rotors aren't as available is this because they didn't sell many or because people never trade them in? or worse they're all destroyed?

I looked at a pottinger 6 rotor which looked good value or what about a claas?
I currently have a fransguard 390 which is good but its a compromise not the best at rowing up or tedding but does a half decent job at both, a tedder rake setup will be a jump forewards but I don't want to feel in 2 years time I should have bought a 6 rotor

I can do you a new 5.2m 4-rotor Jarmet tedder. They are only £2,750 + VAT :) You'll get a TFF discount, too (y)

Lely tedders are good machines, but whoever told you the 600 is a good choice is a buffoon it is useless at both tedding and raking.

For your budget you could buy a very tidy 4 rotor or a very shagged out 6 rotor. I sold my old 6 rotor Lely and it looked OK as paint was shiny but it was fecked. I got 3.5 grand for it.

Why would anyone sell a 6 rotor Tedder unless it's fooked. That's the conclusion I came to last year.

I had a mega pricing session from several dealers on 7 metreish new machines and ended up with a new Lely 770 bought on a combination of reputation and price.

How much is a six or eight rotor one?
They don't do them, yet.

I have been pushing pretty hard for it... but the heavier gearboxes / other driveline components required are startlingly expensive in comparison to those used in this machine, pushing up production costs - thereby pricing them too close to machines offered by the 'established' marques.

I'll keep trying, though - the four rotor machines have had so much interest that a larger machine may be marketable next time around.

Needs to be about 5k for a 7.7 metre machine to compete as I imagine they are worth scrap value secondhand.

Agreed.

Any newcomer has to either be cheap or so niche that a potential buyer has no choice than to pay any price asked. Tedders are not in any way niche, so the price must be LOW.

A mad-tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist might wonder if the 'Big Boys' have made a deal with Comer (before people start making remarks about this manufacturer, take a look at the gearboxes on your Lely - they are Comer, too) to falsely inflate these prices to keep other manufacturers out of the large tedder market....

We've got a Fella six rotor machine. Decent machine. Makes a good job, think the Kuhn is a stronger machine though. Less to go wrong. Stay away from Krone, KV, and Claas. Built to a price, build quality is shocking.

that's the only concern with the jarmet the build quality it might sem good value compared to a second hand one but in a few years time which will still be standing and which will be worth more?
