New Beef Shed build (Slatted Tank)

your dreaming at €60k, double at least. €500 a head would be cheap. I have a shed as you describe but birds are causing me serious problems and probably would go with that design again.

You haven't a hope of fitting 250 cattle in 160ft of a shed with only a tank of 20ft. I have a 110*50 ft fully slatted tank here under a similar shed and would be wedged solid at 200, 600kg cattle. You need 25 - 30sq feet for large animals lying on slats

Thanks Cozzie, so would i get 120 cattle in a shed for €60k? Tell me more about these birds... Is it because it open?

What would this type of shed cost me. Keep it cheap.... with 60% grant from Department. Holding 120 cattle, 6 bays long feeding 10 cattle at front and back. Tank width 30 ft. 15 ft slats.

Your shed design is not great , you need more storage and a wider tank is cheaper to build , the best working shed which is also the most economical to build is a double slat tank both sides with a passage down the middle , two 12'6 slats each side with a concrete strip 18" wide both sides of the slats , this is a grant spec design , the sizes you mentioned are not grant spec. This type of shed 6 bays long gives you 3 double pens both sides of the passage .this will hold 35 fat cattle / pen.

That will work perfect , but will be expensive / hd to build , that is a very wide slat , they are available but are very dear , it will be cheaper to build a double tank with 2 11'6 slats with a wall down the middle , this will also be easier to agitate , you don't need all that feed space for the amount of stock that she'd will hold , if you widen your slatted area by 7 ft and shorten the shed by 2 bays it will hold the same amount of stock for a lot less money .long and narrow is expensive.

what about something like this?
we built this 5 years ago and has worked well. the occasional really windy wet night the cattle are a wee bit miserable but otherwise has been a very easy to manage building
100ft long with two 13ft slats divided into 10 pens. We normally house 120 stores (450kg) and finish them on the slats to about 600kg so each pen holding about 7000kg of cattle
cost about £80,000 all done then we had a bit of a grant on it so has probably paid for itself now.
