Cover crop - Blackgrass quandary

I'm looking to use cover crops for the first time this autumn ahead of my spring break crop.

Normally I would use an over-wintered stubble as an opportunity to clear up some blackgrass. A shallow pass with the Carrier a couple of weeks after harvest followed by glyphosate ahead of the drill usually gets rid of a fair bit of it.

If I establish (probably by drilling) a cover crop shortly after harvest, will I get the same flush of blackgrass? I'm concerned that the cover crop will prevent so much blackgrass from germinating in the autumn.

The other issue is, if I'm unable to find someone to graze the cover pre-drilling, it may be difficult to penetrate the canopy and hit the blackgrass which has germinated with the glyphosate.

Any advice please!

I think the allopathic effects of some cover crop can help control BG

BG wont grow where Black oats grow from memory ???

Maybe worth exploring ?

I have similar worries re brome control in cover crops - I think early termination will be the key, maybe split glyphosate ? First to open the cover up then a week latter to hit the brome ?

Reckon this and other threads show that whatever genetics are possibly offered in to UK in the future. You will have bred Resistant weeds. Be that FOPs and DIMS or Glyphosphate.
The evidence is out there, yet it seems many/most seem to ignore it.

Is there such a thing as glyphosate resistance anywhere yet ?

Thanks Clive. I think early termination may be the way to go, then follow up with a splash of glyphosate 24hrs before drilling (brome is an issue for me too on my lighter land) .
I may have splashed out on a JD750a by then, so it shouldn't be a problem drilling straight into the cover crop residue! Do I trade in the Sprinter is another quandary ??

Don't really see the sprinter as a dd even though it will do the job

You need good depth control to successfully dd I reckon on each coulter. If you want to retain a tined option buy a used dale or amaone primera IMO
