As title suggests, straw will be removed and composted fym applied. Would be drilled in mid sept with hybrid variety.

Is this likely to be successful.

Some of the fields would be a third winter cereal.

Bg not a problem on these fields. (Yet) but this would enable the best cropping on the rest of the farm for the bg fields. (I need to grow some winter cereal somewhere!)

Will it be a disease or take all nightmare. I could keep the stubbles sprayed off to try avoid green bridge for disease.

Should work if no grass weeds. Personally I'd use the opportunity to get a cover in between the 2 crops. You will surely have 8 weeks of the best growing weather of the year

I've got some wb this year that was wb last year and sw the year before. 14 years previous to that was grass. It looks generally good although in a few of the wet patches it does have a lot of grass weed, nothing nasty like black grass. I think the grass problem was mainly due to the wet winter and where the ground lay wet ( neighbour's pond in posh garden has water level higher than the field, I expect they raised the water level so that it looks nicer ) which knocked the barley growth so that it couldn't complete. Apart from that it looks good.

That's good to know, thanks for replies. These fields have never had blackgrass and are clean this year so I would rather use my spring/break crops were I have some bg to deal with.

After the double barley they will get a nice broad leaf late planted Spring crop for a change.
