Haybob if set right is a really good machine for those who cannot justify specialist tedders and rakes. Maybe not perfect at both jobs but it will still do them reasonably well for a fraction of the cost of two machines. You can actually make brilliant wide and flat topped rows for big baling if you know how to set the machine and tractor revs correctly.
Maybe not perfect but still one Hell of a good machine; too many who slag it off just don't know how to set it up and operate it properly.

When machinery goes out of fashion - then is the time to buy..................
400 hundred quid or so will get a useable sh hand haybob if yr keep yr eye on the lookout.
having a spare one or 2 helps when breakdown or for spares.
Keeping machinery costs down is a top priority for me.

our cock pheasant was a great machine:rolleyes:
It was even better when Grandad decided to ram it between 2 tree gate posts without putting it into transport and ripped the drawbar off for the next 20yrs it did a cracking job as a fence
I remember Dad dragged one of these out the nettles

The noise of slipping belts and ungreased bearings and the smell of Stockholm tar He lathered on the belts in the hope that the stickiness would make em grip abit better is something you never forget
Just sneaking into shot is an acrobat the most evil thing ever in the wrong hands to try and bale behind
A haybob was a revelation after these machines

They were good at rowing up but the miget rows did not quite do it for me
Yep me too, didn't leave enough room between rows so you had to go round the outside twice to be able to get round with baler and you would have to go round and round the field because if you tried to go up and down flat 8s would be in the way when you came back down and you were forever getting off to move them.
Seem to remember they did a double hay Bob that could put two rows into one, old chap was desperate to buy one but luckily I bought a rake first and haven't looked back since.

When making hay in distant , often small fields, the haybob saved a trip home for the rowing up machine when the hay was fit, and was robust enough to survive the "thought i rolled it " brigade.

Yup,I can still see swaths rolled up like a rope, baler pulling them in,no control over it what so ever, makes me shudder even now.
They sure gave your left leg some exercise dropping the clutch all the time
Even worse with a round baler simply impossible to make anything round at all

And take twice as long to bale. Don't row it up if it isn't fit ;)
baling is very quick anyway, and is not the bottleneck.
the haybob saves a pass over the field, as rowing it up is as good as a turn, sometimes that is the difference between hay and broken up crap.
otherwise you have to ted it , then wait and rake it, then bale it which is fine if you have 3 tractors and the field is close.

Our current one is made by fransgard and is a hell of a lot better than the volac one it replaced. Beautiful, even, well aired rows and doesn't make ropes like haybobs and acrobats. They do a good job however big the crop as long as you don't have billy whizz on the thing, good round bales start with the swath.
Holy feck ,what technique do you use to make a Haybob make rope like an Acrobat???:eek::eek:
