29 horsepower used to pull tonnes of seed tatties to the local station using only the tractor brakes to slow it down. Wouldn't be me mind. The drawbar pin jumped out one day and the trailer and Tatties shot through the stationmasters kitchen destroying it. From then on the trailer was known as the Torpedo. Same tractor trailer outfit used to cart a Deere Model D or Cat D2 about in the 40's and 50's.

The Major 4000; part of Ford's attempt to integrate the old Fordson models to the new 6X Rattlebox models. The old Fordson Super Major would often outperform the new 5000 Super Major, which was a source of much embarrassment to Ford salesmen. The new high revving short stroke engines were low on torque and performance; the only thing they scored highly on was the noise level.
Massey's smooth low end torque Perkins engines were a delight to work with if you had ever had the misfortune to drive a Ford. The 135 in particular was just so much better than the gutless clatterbox Ford 3000; with optional Multi Power it was streets ahead of its rival. I worked with Ford tractors here at home but God knows how they ever sold so many of those 6X and 6Y models when Masseys had much the better tractors.
