Fuel for a ted20

I have a redundant T20 that tbh I can't think of much use for. It has been adjusted (timing I guess) years back to run on just petrol.
It kind of runs but have been told the dissy is a bit buggered anyway, it won't run at high revs for any length of time so no good on the sawbench.

If i fiddle about with it, service the carb and maybe replace the dissy (and heat shield) will it make a good economical dedicated sawbench tractor? Will the sawbench keep it hot enough to run on tvo?
I read somewhere that once switched onto tvo the fuel economy is much better in terms of amount used. Is that right?

Yes, it will be fine on the bench on heating oil, just leave it 20-25 minutes on petrol.
You might get parts for the "dissy" on E-Bay points will be the main thing.
Are you OK setting the points/timing?
Not running at high revs for any length of time sounds, like fuel starvation
Kero is very reasonably priced, so it has to be cheap fuel for the bench compared to petrol with all the taxes, well worth getting it sorted.

I used to drive a dryer fan with a T20 engine that came off a MH baler. It was run for years on kero heating oil. I could turn it over from petrol after a minute or two from start up. I did notice that the manifold would glow in the dark.

Maybe it was just ours or just us, but it would splutter and sometimes stop (nightmare to get started again with oiled plugs) if we turned it over to quick. Worth trying it both ways, then so ............

Tried running a VW golf on home heating oil from cold, it would start and run, but we found that the sump was filling up with kerosene, so that was that.

I'm fine with points and timing, I've done them.
The tractor had been sat outside for decades unused, I rescued it and soon had it running but it wouldn't run a sawbench. I had cleaned the tank as best I could, even had the Hoover in there but I think that was still the cause of the starvation.

Uncle then told me " dissy has always been buggered on that". I guess he meant the spindle was worn.
There isn't a heat shield on it but I do have one
Uncle also told me it has the Howard reduction box in it which I didn't know.

I was driving this tractor aged 6, carting caulis with my Dad. Fancy putting a six year old to drive a tractor!
Still, it put me in good stead for when they sent me down the mines at 8 :D

Sentimental value then so, might be to good for the saw?
We had to put a lawnmower tank on one (petrol) to get it going ............
If you could get a cleanable filter in the fuel line, you could wash it out now and again.
Dyson handheld or proper industrial hoover?

I used to steer one of our Massey 65s or a 35 pulling a trailer around the field in low gear whilst my dad and his brothers forked bales onto the load. I was so small one of them had to put it into gear for me because l could not reach the pedals. I bet l was only about 5 or 6 then!

Sentimental value only as long as it has a use, so it is not too good for any job. If anything I am trying to find a job for it to justify keeping it at all, and running on petrol only makes it not easy.
Henry in the tank so a good old sucking. Maybe I need to try a bit harder but I keep having to tell myself no more projects.
