Pink stuff ,tablets, different foods -taken the lot-been to doctors over the years - etc. etc.
Always swallowing - clearing throut - neck bit sore -bit numbish ?
When does the reflux turn too Gerd or other problems - always horror stories but doctors just palm you off and then when your really bad they turn and say "you should have come earlier with this " ?
Any other reflex affected ?

Horrid isn't it? I've had it for 25 years, along with dysphagia, (problems swallowing - I basically dare not eat anything without water to hand as it sometimes gets stuck, I'm like an owl I sometimes regurgitate food that has got stuck half way down).

I go through phases - have periods with no real probs then might have a bad week for no apparent reason. I'm on max dose lansoprazole which does help although I still have bad nights some times despite sleeping propped up. Had an endoscopy earlier this summer to investigate low iron levels, and it appears I now have Barretts which is probably what you are worrying about. Biopsies normal but I have a GI consultant appt next month so not sure what he is going to say, not seen him before.

Been on omeprazole since around '97, when it started to get the point I could hardly swallow and would start choke. I used to have nights in so much pain and discomfort I was sat up wheezing, clutching my throat, in tears and wishing for death. Now I'm mostly OK as long as I take the 20mg of Omeprazole each evening but some times I have to double the dose.

Things I avoid altogether
Tap water
Cheese
Pastry
Caramel

Limited intake
Alcohol (very limited)
Chocolate
Coffee

Chlorine?

That's not the only piece, just one of quite a few. Like I said, I suspect that problems with mass chlorination of the water may start to come to light in time.

Like anything I reckon only a relatively small % will be affected but my late mother and I are 2 of them, my brother who has his own spring fed water supply isn't. I have been on the same water supply pretty much since age 1 and my mother only started to be affected when she moved from the same supply as my brother to the local village which is the same public supply as I am on and spent her last years in pain and misery gulping down liquid gaviscon because no medication they gave her could give her relief.

Its hard to describe and I would think impossible for anyone who hasn't suffered it to understand but I can only suggest it must be like having a red hot metal poured down your gullet, the difference being it never cools down, you're still alive and any relief is only temporary.

I find the acid burn is not the worst aspect, it is the waking up at night gagging on my own stomach juices, despite being on propped up bed and pillows. I was up twice last night - fourth night in a row, no wonder I'm shattered.

If you want to reduce the chlorine content in water just draw some off and keep it in a jug in the fridge, the chlorine levels drop as the gas dissipates.

You have my sympathy, it's hellish when you wake up and the acid has gone down the wrong tube, hopefully you can calm it down soon. Thankfully I haven't had that for almost a year.

Water, simpler just to use 5ltr bottles of spring water (check the analysis), get a free planter (big enough for lettuce) and cloche with it.

There are two types of heartburn. High stomach acid and low stomach acid - both feel the same and are painful, and can do damage in the long term.
To know which you may have is easy, eat a teaspoon of bicarb. You can stir it in some water if you like. If you burp within a minute, you have high acid, burp within a few minutes, normal acid, or dont burp much at all, you have low acid.
Most GPs will give you an antacid if you say you have hearburn. If you have low acid, this will make it worse.
I help my low acid by having the odd teaspoon of bicarb, which seems to last around 3 days.
