Joking aside. Does anyone have any real hope, for a significant price increase (I.e much above 20pence) any time soon? I honestly don't expect it. All the same if it doesn't, it'll be one bloody hard and long winter, (for me anyway).....
You and me both mate.
Though I have a glimmer of hope that priced are going to continue to strengthen over the next few months. I would like to think that with the addition of winter bonuses (where they apply) prices should push beyond the 20p barrier by Christmas, with the continued hope that we won't notice much difference when the bonus periods end.

Perhaps I'm daft but faith and optimism is about all I have left that nobody can take off me and regardless of the 'slagging' and 'banter' on these forums it is my hope for everyone.

Any faith and optimism going spare??

Hard to know what way it'll end up going forward? Been a hard spell, having cut meal hard and a crappy second cut lying in the pits I certainly don't think I'll be putting out much this winter.... Then again I honestly don't know how men could have the courage to keep pushing hard for the last while....

Each of us has to operate our own business in a manner which suits us, not our neighbours nor our processors.

Depends on what the processors are making. If they make powder, heck, it's still being sold into intervention although it's tapered down to a dribble. They are likely to be sitting on stock from the spring. Demand internationally is at best described as flat on average. You'd probably be doing them a favour if you let them mothball the driers over the winter. Different buyers may have different requirements.

Is it not good to see processors actively seeking supply? The EU milk reduction program is probably a year to late.
The milk reduction scheme is possibly of benefit to those producers who have genuinely reduced cow numbers. Unfortunately, like most schemes from the EU, it hasn't been thought through and is open to abuse.

One thing is clear, it was oversupply which led to poor prices. Over the past year or more nobody within the industry, the unions, government departments or the EU have attempted to do anything or put mechanisms in place to prevent a repeat.

It does seem a little irresponsible to publicly criticise the scheme and ask for more milk when the vast majority of producers are taking a price below COP (regardless of how we measure it)
There are, unfortunately, enough eejits out there who will have read last Saturday's Farming Life and are already feeding more meal, buying more stock and doing their best to supply this imaginary demand.
