Any recommendations for a weather station that will last more than a year. Thats as much as i get out of them,its electronic one's so i dont have to remember to empty rain guage etc.

Tried 2 maplin each lasted a year. Looked at Davis but still worried I'll only get maybe 2 years
I have a maplins one and it has been going for three years so far. I have it mounted on the gable end of the house so going up to change the transmitter batteries isn't so straight forward. However, the rain gauge is rubbish, it reads about a third of actual rainfall, i have replaced the rain gauge part and it still under reads.
We have a Davis Weatherwizard here that is 20 years old,the rain gauge and anemometer have both been replaced,but the actual unit is original.

Spiders make webs in mine and I have to clean it out to stop them tying the mechanism up.
I don't like spiders so that doesn't get done as often as it should. I don't like heights either so if it was placed like yours none of it would get done.

Looks like Davis is worth the extra £'s I'll maybe give it a go
Are all Davis weather stations made to the same standard however much one pays for one?
I will look on their website,but I asked the question to get your feed back.
Do any of you that are contract farming have a weather station on off lying farms,which is connected to your internet computer via repeaters and wirless so that you can see if it has rained/or dry at the off lying farm,there by saving wasted journey.A friend of my in Canada had four stations across Saskatchewan which he could monitor from his home in Saskatoon.

I have put together a weather station that runs on 12V and the battery is kept charged with a solar panel. It transmits direct to the internet via a router and dongle using a 3G sim.
It uploads to Wundermap so anyone can see it, however it has yet to venture any further than my living room as i can't decide where to site it.

Got mine on a pole about six foot above the garage roof so as I can get access to change the battery. Way too low by Met. Office standards for windspeed measurements as we're in the bottom of a valley with surrounding buildings.

Still no rain and although it went a bit cold last night it's warming up nicely now the missus has lit the fire.
Update,my rain gauge has gone again,3rd one in 20 years,nothing lasts forever I suppose.
I have an Oregon WMR89. The hardware is good quality but the promise from the retailer that 'within 6 months' I could use it with Weather Display to publish to the web hasn't been delivered.

Has anyone bought a Davis station lately? Been looking at a vantage pro2 weather station and wondering how they differ to the vantage vue.
Am also curious about the soil temp and moisture sensors and assume they are aimed at irrigated crops but would they be any good for grass growth prediction and general interest?
