we bought a 10' and a 4' for our front gates, they only ever both get opened with 18 tonners come up or the hay guy with his tractor and trailer. we have smaller needs but the principle is the same

Do you need a gate ? A simple braced bar vehicle barrier does the job and takes no time to knock up.
Yes, I'm hoping it'll also prevent ramblists from flip- flopping down though the bottom of the yard and garden, instead of going over the stile at the top........
