Bring it on. We'vegot two new neighbours. One I'll dig out and help, the other has a four wheel drive because they live in a rural village. I've lived here since 1979, and never needed 4X4. Chains and snow tyres yes, but 4x4? Never.

Of course he's just sat at home waiting for you to say, "Go!"
A bit like those who come to me in May and say, "Don't you realise how important it is that it is finished for harvest?" What do you think we do for the rest of the year? We look after farmers who can plan.

Guess it depends on whether he just installs or does breakdown and repair, I never book anything this time of year so I can do a boiler swap within 2 days from condemning the old one ;)

As long as it does not get as bad as 1963.....

I enjoyed 1963; I would have been 13 and we had good fun although I expect it was very tough on my father.
Trapping rabbits was one of the things I got up to and did a round each day with traps on a little sledge. Had a panic moment on a sunny day when I couldn't see the gateway out of the field, then realised I couldn't see anything at all. Sun reflecting off the snow had made me snow blind; sat on the sledge for about 30 mins and gradually it came back.

Re- “Big Freeze” please do not get carried away with this it’s just a normal short sharp arctic blast which by Monday of next week will be all over, but we can expect to see moderate to heavy falls for a time in places as troughs come down in the flow enhancing the showers, so if you have livestock over high ground maybe worth bringing them down, it turns milder after the weekend updates at metjeffuk.com

According to my Dad there's a big difference between the dry cold the Canadians get and the wet cold we get over here.

I used to work on
-4 put the quartz heaters on at the water troughs,
-7 get me pipe thawing gear ready to go, I have my very own patented (I wish) method of thawing pipes, especially handy for those awkward ones you can't get at, reminds me I need to get the parts to build another one(y)
-12 look out the pick-axe ready to dig down and unfreeze the mains, (not much use when Scottish Water haven't thawed the supply at the reservoir)
