Why not oopf? Could put a blend through them easily or a top up feed with an auger bucket after milking would work fine I would think

Dad loves them my only concern is we're growing numbers and I don't want to be in a position where in order to put more cows on we have to commit more money for more feeders. If we knew we would be sticking at x numbers for a while it would be a big help

Would it not be difficult to use the best blend when you don't know exactly what quality the sialge is when ensiling

In my eyes can't see why you would do this! Are you going to guess the quality of ur silage? And could be wasting money on certain stuff in the blend that you don't need.we test the silage monthly as we feed it adjusting the blend to suit! We do 4cuts of silage a year and quality changes a lot

Agree with both of these points hence why I like the forum. We would have to make a degree of assumption on what it will analyse like and make our adjustment in the parlour cake. The issue here is that we may not create the savings I want

OOPFs are not that suitable in your system, be more for all year round calving, just get a feeder that can handle blend when you order your 60 point rotrary

We been in a group for years roughly buy 8000ton of cake and 3000 blend in our group,save about 30quid on both cake and blend per tonne.the bloke that runs it does have 3groups does our costings,any grants,nvz,bps.... Any paper work you want basicly on one morning a month.one group meeting a month at night! The odd farm walk or trip out,the only rule is you have to pay your bill every month,with out fail or it doesn't work

You would save more by concentrating on growing better and more grass

One of the best machines we've brought was the vredo direct drill! It was 19k 3years ago the improved quality in silage was massive and quantity! Iv done loads of contracting with it about 10k the first year,farmers love it!can do fields as u graze them,or roundup a field twice drill it options are endless!

Does anyone know why the bulling slime in this heifer is red? Guessing it is blood but this is before I put the ai gun in her and had only lifted the cervix, she does seem to be causing issues getting in calf as this was 4th service.

:banghead::banghead:
She was bellowing like mad at 5am this morning but not standing(she was 1 of 2 heifers bulling chasing each other trying to mount one another) but by 12 mid day she was standing and served at 3pm:mad: she has been the same each time I've served her:banghead:
then serve her as soon as you see her bulling. like all ladies they are all slightly different.
