What to do with old oxy and acetylene bottles...?

Basically I've been left with a very old set of oxy acetylene bottles that I don't know how to get rid of.

Have let all gas out of them but can't get the valves out to fill them with water.

Was wondering if I could cut them up for scrap but a bit unsure about doing this?? [emoji95][emoji95]

Any suggestion???

Could you not just take them to BOC or whoever originally owned them .
Or I see the local dumps here have cylinder cages for these type of things ( I've had a few bottles out of them ) .
I think the Acetylene is dissolved in acetone and the inside of the cylinder might have charcoal or something in it , probably never safe to cut open .
The oxygen makes a good air receiver if it's cleaned out I'm told .Not sure how clean it has to be , but oil and grease with Oxygen is to be avoided :watching:

yeah i wouldn't risk the acet bottle, done propane in the past but never with valves on, cut only after filling with water first.

If you don't have a project requiring them just have them collected

Result! Just phoned Air Products (who's name is on them) and they have arranged to collect them within 2 weeks.

Thanks for replies, I was under the impression that because they were not "in contract" they wouldn't want to touch them.

Really wasn't keen to cut them up! Thanks again for all replies.

Box won't pick theirs up from here. Got six bottles and they said we had to deliver them, perhaps we'll charge because most of them were never our bottles anyway.

I seem to remember that some people tried to sell bottles on ebay and Boc contact them. They tell them they aren't allowed to sell them and they then arrange to pick them up. This quite recent.

Thanks, I must admit it was a couple of years ago they wouldn't come. Perhaps they've realised the old bottles could be a liability.
